The Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) is a peaceful, nonviolent civil rights movement that emerged from the suffering and resilience of the Pashtun people. Our mission is to uphold the civil, social, and economic rights of the Pashtun Afghan population while expressing solidarity with all oppressed communities in the region.
We demand justice for the thousands of lives lost, the disappeared, and those subjected to state repression, landmines, and military operations. PTM stands as a beacon of peaceful resistance, echoing the voices of the marginalized and holding those in power accountable.
Nonviolence is our philosophy and strength.
Justice for victims of extrajudicial killings and unlawful detentions.
Equal representation and democratic rights for all.
A free press and open expression without censorship.
End to enforced disappearances, torture, and state violence.
Cross-Durand Solidarity:
The Khar Qamar Massacre, which occurred on May 26, 2019, in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtonkhwa, was a tragic incident in which the Pakistan Army opened fire on a peaceful, unarmed protest led by the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), killing at least 16 civilians and injuring many others. The protest, organized by PTM leaders Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar, aimed to condemn military abuses against local Pashtuns. This brutal act is seen as part of a larger pattern of state oppression, including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and suppression of dissent. Following the massacre, a media blackout and arrests of PTM leaders highlighted the military’s attempts to silence opposition, sparking outrage among human rights groups and fueling the Pashtun community’s calls for justice and accountability.
To demand justice for those lost to extrajudicial killings and military operations.
To end racial profiling and collective punishment in tribal areas.
To abolish landmines that continue to maim and kill our children.
To protect our identity and culture from erasure and distortion.
The Pashtun people will never forget these atrocities.
Our struggle continues — for truth, for justice, for peace.
